Culture is a critical organizational capability that can provide an unbeatable competitive advantage. It is a set of shared values, beliefs, attitudes and practices that guide every employee’s behavior.
Culture building is a journey that Capelle is very familiar with, having partnered with various organizations to develop a culture that is unique to them and not easily copied.
The journey starts with the organization’s strategy and defining its desired culture and values. The values are translated into actionable behaviors, which employees can understand and apply in their everyday work and interactions. The journey also has milestones which are encapsulated in the 3As:
Aware – it begins with communicating the values and behaviors to employees so that they have the same understanding and interpretation. This is done through experiential workshops that illustrate what the values are and how they are lived out.
Apply – integrating the values into people practices, recognizing positive role models and leading by example are some strategies to encourage staff to consistently apply the values.
Adopt – internalizing the values so that they are adopted as a lifestyle can be accomplished by monitoring the application of values and using reinforcement strategies.
